Welcome to the Messpot Diaries! In case you’re wondering what a “messpot” actually is, well, you’ve come to the right spot. When I was a kid, my mama sometimes called me a messpot when I would go around making messes. This blog is all about life and it’s random, fantastic, heartbreaking, inspiring messiness. I love to write and this is a way that I can share my thoughts with the world. In some ways we all believe that we are unique but it is our similarities that truly bring us together. I hope that through my writing it sparks a memory or a thought that reminds you of your own life.
It is my dream to be a “professional” writer one day. I know I’ve got some work ahead of me to get there but I see it in my future. I’ve got to claim it. My great aunt, Dana, used to tell me that she felt like I’d be something real special one day. I’d like to think that I am already something special but just in case I’m not, I’ll keep trying. I’ve been writing since I was a kid and telling myself that “one day” I’ll make writing a priority. One day is now and I’m chasing the dream.
I’ve come to recognize writing as much like an art as music, sculpting, or any other art. It’s a passion that you have–a similarity between artists–where your life is not quite as complete as it should be until you’re working amongst your art. Writing is my art…it is my passion and my focus. I am at home while writing and terribly lost when I don’t. It’s how I express myself in my purest form. I love to incorporate humor into the things that I write, even when trying to be serious. Don’t be offended if sometimes the humor doesn’t seem like the timing is normal. I’m not normal, neither are the things I write.
So….about me…I hold down a regular Monday through Friday kind of job that has nothing to do with writing. My undergraduate degree is in Political Science and my graduate degree is in Human Resources, aka cat herding. I have two boys, one that is grown and one that thinks he is grown. I enjoy traveling, mainly to Port Saint Joe, Florida where I hope to live one day in the really near future. I love daydreaming and try to find ways to incorporate my daydreams into my writing. When I have time, I enjoy making pretty crafty things, growing plants that resist living, and decorating. I also love to cook…mainly because I like to eat. I once took a cake decorating class and learned how to make pretty sugar flowers. I probably couldn’t make one now if my life depended on it. I currently reside in middle Georgia and many of my books (that I’ve started and have yet to finish) take place in beautiful, rural settings.
